Ebay - New Style Coupler

I bought my SS in the early 1980's so it's 25 years old +-. the paint on my coupler has worn off. I'm completely unsatisfied every time I use the coupler, like for 5 or 6 operations each session.
I can't believe a company would not use indestructible materials in their fabrication process.
( just another example of complaining just to complain.);)

FWIW The paint has NOT worn off my almost half century old coupler! They must have made em 'better' back then!:D

LIke me.... where's that coupler? (walking across the garage) "kick" what the heck was that? hmmmm it went under the car, oh look it's the coupler. Grab a board cue stick the coupler out from under the car with the 2X2. NOW where the heck did it go? (walking ariound the garage) "kick", GRRRRRRR repeat multiple times until the kids come in and look at you like you have lost your mind, they then pick up the coupler and say "Dad, what's this doing on the floor it's gonna get lost or broken" Grumble, grumble just give it here:rolleyes:

I wish for a coupler from SS that would compress from one, or both, ends. That would allow me to remove the coupler from my headstock to my jointer, planer, whatever, so that I can then use the tablesaw with full power going to it and no power 'wasted' turning a useless jointer. Right now, I have to move the headstock back and forth.

Well, I do that with mine sometimes. When I move the headstock over to drive the bandsaw or whatever, if I don't fully drive the couplers over the sprockets I can push the tube over against the spring, cock it, and remove it.

You're compromising the strength of the coupler, because you're not using full engagement. So if you load it, it's more likely to rip the engagement teeth off. But, it can be done.
