Internet Explorer 9 Beta Blues

Normally, I don't try any beta versions of software. Too concerned about the negative effects it could have on my computer. I've been fortunate over the past decade to have a VERY stable, problem free computers. I've treated them real good!

Got bold and installed IE 9 beta. I liked the IE 7 to IE 8 upgrade so much that I wanted a new 'wow' factor. :) My initial impression was luke warm to say the least. Seemed like a modified version of Google Chrome. (not really a Chrome fan). Took it for a ride over to the ShopSmith forum, clicked on 'New Posts' link and none showed up. I was surprised because I hadn't logged onto the site for a half day. So I next clicked on "Quick Links" and selected "Todays Posts" to see all posts made in the last 24 hours and again, none showed up. (FYI - if you non-IE folks don't know what "Quick Links" is, you may not even see it in the browser your using). I knew there were posts made in the last 24 hours because I made a few. I looked into each of the forum category individually and could see new posts (shown bolded) and also plenty of posts made in the past 24 hours. Seemed like an IE9 bug. Since I wasn't crazy about IE9 beta, I uninstalled it. Back into IE 8 world. Went back to the forum and........same problems!! Now IE 8 doesn't show "New Posts or "Today's Posts" (past 24 hrs.) either. :mad:

Anyone else having the same issues?

1) Shut down completely(powerdown) and restart. I have had this phenomenon occur when I was too long 'logged on'(filled up cookie space???)

2) Install and use Firefox!:D

ctrl-f5 should force a full refresh of the page and bypass the cache

ctrl-F5 didn't help. Also, logging off from the forum clears all cookies and that didn't work either. Cleared all cookies on the computer also. NG

Firefox works AND it also had the "Quick Links" link. Chrome, Safari don't. Firefox seems close to IE8 in look / functionality. Where's spell check in it? I don't see it here in the forum post section. With IE, there's not only an 'ABC' buttom to check spelling in the forum but also, I had a plug-in "'iespell" that works anywhere you type info on any sight.

What don't you like about chrome Mike? I use it and really enjoy having spell check wherever I go.

Only thing I don't like about Chrome is that I don't trust that it is showing the pages correctly. ShopSmith forum page is a good example. IE and Firefox both show the "Quick Link" feature on the red bar toward the top of the page. It's not visible in either Chrome or Safari browsers on my computer. It also lacks functionality with other some other work related applications that are designed around IE.

I didn't realize that it's ALWAYS on, thus no button for it. I was focused on looking for a button. Nice feature!! It shows the errors as you type.

I second the Firefox motion. Actually, I'd say IE8 looks like Firefox, not the other way around. Firefox has been ahead of the curve for a while and less malicious code is written for it. Plus, the ability to sync all your bookmarks from different computers is really convenient (Xmarks add-in).
