Should work on all Mark V units *EXCEPT GREENIES*. Remember, greenies have bench tubes which are a slightly different size. As such, all other mark V units should be compatible.jcraigie wrote:Anyone know if this will work on a 500?

A pair of the smaller bench tubes would be easy to come by... I can't think of any reason that wouldn't work on a greenie unless I am missing something.

The casting the bench tubes mount in are different on a greenie(to accommodate those 1 7/8" tubes).robinson46176 wrote:A pair of the smaller bench tubes would be easy to come by... I can't think of any reason that wouldn't work on a greenie unless I am missing something.

One could replace the 1 7/8" bench tubes with 1 3/4" bench tubes but the tubes need to be shimmed 1/16" between the tube and the step on the casting. This would ensure the new tubes were located(spaced) properly so the lift assist hardware would fit.

I must be blind...
I was looking at the picture showing the upgrade on the e-mail and am confused. In order to use the routing/shaping function, does the table have to be put in backwards? Also, is another table carriage necessary if the table is flipped? If that is the case, how much horizantal space is given up for the lathe function?

The upgrade comes with new table posts that have rack teeth on both sides.

wannabewoodworker wrote:I got the email today and was wondering if any of you would bite the bullet and get this upgrade. I know there was a healthy discussion about how they made a Mark VII out of a Mark V but I guess that question has been answered for some time now. Looks pretty neat but I already have an original Mark VII so I have no need for the upgrade but someone who does not have this could really benefit from being able to tilt the machine both directions.
I just got this email. It says it requires tools most woodworkers already have but it does not say what they are. Anyone know what tools are required to install the upgrade? Thanks,
Tim
Tim:
I've been turkey hunting and have just gotten around to opening the upgrade box.
According to the manual; tools required:
9/16" socket and ratchet
5/16" pin punch
Ball peen hammer
large flat screwdriver
#3 Phillips screwdriver
#2 Phillips screwdriver
7/16" open end wrench
5/32" Shopsmith allen wrench
past wax
a piece of corrugated cardboard approx 24"x30"
tube support (make before disassembly)
headstock support 3/4"x3 3/4"x10" (make before disassembly)
The last two items are made from wood, or 3/4" plywood.
