Nuts that are not salted are not taxable add a little salt and bingo cash cow for the government. In Canada a muffin bought at Tim Hortons is taxable, 6 are not. Your government damed near collapsed because of agendas by politicians and you ask about logic. Unfortunately not all things can be rationalized.
You are correct on several points. There is no logic in irrational 'thinking'.
I have never stated anywhere that I thought the 'individuals' running the U. S. Government are rational beings!
God Ed I hope that stuff you encountered is a FL thing. But then I do not anticipate ever sending anything to a 'repair center' myself.
Muffins tax/1 no tax/6! And you say 'our' government is flakey? Seems some has rubbed off on each other!. Perhaps the 'thinking' is that one is purchased for immediate consumption(like a restaurant) but 6 is for taking home first(like a grocery store). We gots the same thing! Restaurant food taxed, groceries not. A bunch of rules identifying what is/isnot 'groceries'. Junk food(pop/chips/candy...) is taxed.
Yer correct; much 'regulation' is a fund raiser rather than consumer protection.
End Rant!:)
