Tall fence yet another project

i.e. Why worry? I suppose one could shim it between the fence.

Yep the 1989 version blew it! Same as online version.

7" too long'(6" better)

1 13/16(+3/8") too big(1 1/16 correct) <<<<<<the only real error<<<<< not clearly drawn. holes 1 7/16 above infeed table top surface.

9 7/8" correct(wrong(10") in 84 version)

The rest seems ok.

Earlier version(Greenie vintage) left off dimensions entirely[guess we were smarter back then:D].

Interesting last couple of posts. If nothing else it proves you need to check the plans against the real hardware before you start layout and the build.

I do not have the jointer but i do have the shopsmith auxiliary fence (555653). Paper work reflects 5/99, so it has to be since then that I got it.

I did a quick review of how it is built and then took some ruff measurements. First an over view of the part.

Using the right side as a reference the first hole is 7" in, the second is 17" and the last hole is 18-3/4. The first and last hole appear about 1-5/8 up from the bottom reference. The other hole is about 2-1/8" up. (holes are referenced from the lowest reference in virtual space for two of them).

The following note gives this information:

From this we can gather that there are more then one fence out there. That makes drawings questionable unless they say for which version they cover.

My unknown version says to use 1" flat head screws, so no measurement needed. BUT on my fence, the holes are KNOT on an even plane. So 1 7/16 above the infeed table wood knot work to well.

So I measured the holes and came up with 1.5" above the infeed and 1 15/16 above the cutter.

Well that explains part of the confusion!

Live and learn! Whoda thunk more than one version of the fence!:eek:

I would not be surprised if the addition of the rear blade guard caused a relocation of some holes on the fence from the original specs.
