I was reading the (P.T.W.F.E) book last night and noticed a picture of the sharpening guide mounted to the belt sander. Is this option still used? Does it work?
Any help would be great thanks

Sharpening Guide vs Belt Sander
Nothing has changed that would make it NOT work. I don't use it there, I've been sharpening chisels on the Shopsmith.
I'm about to change to the strip sander - need to negotiate funding.
This MIGHT be a topic for the Sawdust Sessions. "Using the Sharpening Guide, Wherever It Might be Used" or "Maximize Using What You Already Have".

Hi,
I'm glad to here your reading the book! They have a lot of good ideas and information that we often forget about. You can also do some reading in the tips section... check out this to start with: http://www.woodshoptips.com/tips/070102/index.htm
I don't use the belt sander for this but I believe that at least one member here does so maybe Chuck can post some advice for you about this.
Good luck and keep reading!

You bet, Brad! I use the Belt Sander 100% of the time to sharpen lathe tools.breya wrote:I was reading the (P.T.W.F.E) book last night and noticed a picture of the sharpening guide mounted to the belt sander. Is this option still used? Does it work?

If you are so inclined, you can sharpen again to a new angle by just sliding the headstock over. No need to put on a table.
Any questions, just holler!
