Tool Rest

My MK V does not appear to have a mount for the lathe tool rest. I inherited a machine that was manufactured in 1982. Am I missing something? I have the mount for the table saw and drill press but it is on the opposite end from the lathe and work to be turned. I'm new at this and I hate to bother you guys but I'm at a loss.

Dave's link is a great resource. Basically, there is the carriage on the right side of the headstock (motor) where the table saw table goes. If you remove the table, then you can insert a lathe tool rest. If yours didn't come with one then you can get one from Shopsmith or via ebay/forum member.

Note that you need more than just the tool rest in general - their is the lathe tailstock, the faceplate or drive center, the live/dead center, and the tools. it might be easiest to lay out all the accessories you have and take a photo, we can help identify what you are missing.

by opposite end, I think you mean that the tailstock for the lathe is on the left side if you are looking at the machine. There is a knob on the end to loosen the tailstock from the mount, then you can move it to the other side of the machine

Take a good look at the first two pix in the link in the second post. They demonstrate a normal lathe setup.

I didn't realize that I had to move the tailstock to the right in orzder to mount the tool rest. That makes perfect sense and i should be off and turning. Thank you all very very much. You guys are SUPER!!! Thanks again.

I noticed you are in Seattle... I think I also need a tool rest and the carriage (?) it goes into for the lathe... plus some other parts too... I'm in Sammamish.
