How old is the breaker? They do wear out. Does the SS pop the breaker on the other receptacle circuit as well?

I've read all the posts in the thread, and there has been some excellent advice given. But it wouldn't be the first breaker I've seen go bad. It's easy enough to test though--just get a circular saw or something like that, and use it awhile through a 25' extension cord. Or just try the other circuit to power the Shopsmith, if you haven't already. Obviously, check out the SS first--simply to make sure you're not going to do more damage if that is indeed the problem. However if nothing evident appears, then check out the breaker a bit further.

IIRC it only includes bearing replacement(and a good blowing out).

There is a small clip that holds the wires to the switch. If it is not in place it can allow the wires to touch the upper sheave, wearing the insulation and shorting out the hot wire. You might check to see if that has happened. It was a very hard to see the scuff on mine, I really found it more by feel. There is a reason to blow the head stock out rather than vacume it. That's how I undid the clip. :o

A problem with blowing the headstock out rather than vacuuming it is that the dust goes airborne and gets into the motor. I vacuum out the heavy stuff and then turn the headstock on and use the air compressor to finish the clean out. Every now and then (and whenever I have dropped the motor pan), I concentrate on cleaning out the motor.

It never ceases to amaze me, though, how well the Mark V motor survives in such a harsh environment.
