The way/bench tube set screws are cupped. Other places where they are removed only for major disassembly are cupped etc.
Now about yer 'too long,cupped' setscrews', placing them on the end of the 5/32" allen wrench(aka ss tool kit) then aligning it with the miter gauge, one can grind a flat(and shorten them in the process) using the
disk sander.
Yer upper shaft hub is typical especially with older models.

Thanks, I finally did find a "proper" setscrew for the drive hub in question. After searching the doc from Dusty and parts breakdowns from the manual, most of the 1/4 length setscrews are internal in some of the SPT's in particular the bandsaw.
Where I did find one is right on top of the miter gauge.
Attached the power coupler, adjusted the belt on the belt sander and am now working on the little project for my wife.
Then, it's back to the jointer rebuild.
I think with my next order of SS "stuff" this week, I'll go ahead and get a dozen or so of those 1/4 length setscrews.
It still bugs me why the previous owner didn't have any.
Anyway, thanks to all for helping me out with this small problem!

That set screw
is proper for the miter gauge. The stop gauge shafts do not like cupped screws either!;)

It is likely the previous owner just went to the hardware store and bought the first set screws he came across, not realizing that there are different types.
Don't ask me how I know, I embarrass easily.

Just ordered a dozen from SS. First call, the salesperson looked up the part and said *502051 was for the drive hub on the headstock. I didn't believe him, he couldn't tell me what size it was, so I took the part* and researched it myself. I cross-referenced it with Dusty's setscrew chart.
SS stock number was for a 3/8 long setscrew. So I ordered 12 of *222458 which is the 1/4 long flat tip setscrews.
I've always said ya can't have too many setscrews!

Some years ago I purchased Item J from the attached listing of 17 most frequently ordered parts. Those set screws have saved my bacon many times.
