Looking for advice before purchasing a Shopsmith

That "Greenie" looks to be in good condition. Questions will remain as far as how it sounds, does the jig (not scroll) saw work?, what all does come with it. Of course, since its close, it'll do no harm to look, kick the tires, listen to the engine.

But in my opinion, you would do better to go for the 510 that's listed in North Tonawonda for $550. Better condition, looks like new, stronger motor, larger tables, just a much better machine to start off with.

If you do consider the 510, just make sure everything that is suppose to come with the base 510 is there. Make a list so you don't forget anything, quiz the owner, ask for more pics, etc. Only a couple pics on that one. Visit the SS site to see what is suppose to be there.

That first pic in post 6 has to be a VERY clean machine. Pic taken in what looks to be a commercial kitchen. Hope they weren't slicing ham on the jig saw.

That pix reminds me of a certain cabinetmaker's shop that Dusty has stated would pass a health inspection!:D

That's a real shame, lucky dog whoever got it at that price. But be patient, I have gotten all my equipment by either traveling some distance for the good deals, having some of it mailed to me, and by just being patient.

I would wait for at least a 510 personally. My first buy was in Florida, only a 1983 500, but it came with 4 SPT's and a slew of smaller extra's for $900. Since then I have added many more good accessories, some new, some mailed from out of state on Craiglist. Yes, I have shopped all over the country on Craiglist. Now I also have a 2006 520 that I picked up locally for $1000. I have acquired all of this stuff inside of a year. So patience can usually pay off if you're willing to travel or have an item shipped to really get the good deals. Except for the shipped items, I have always been able to talk them down from their asking price.

If the items been listed for at least 2 months, they will probably move on the price

Pieceseeker speaks truth. My experience closely parallels his.

After a long dry spell on Craigslist in Columbus, this one just popped up today. I'm sorely tempted, but I too am running out of space in my workshop. But then if I made it into a shorty, and sold my Powerstation on Craiglist ...

Edit: Belay that. Powerstations bring much more on eBay!
