The '8x8' front table extension is for the 500 table. The 500 table has precious little room from the table front to the blade. The extension provides more space for cross cutting wide workpieces.

Why not throw that other motor in granddads machine? see if it works might be worth a shot

Speaking of grand dad's machine, a shorty/mini power station is suggested. No carriage, no main table, just the headstock and the SPT mounts.
