If you adjusted feed direction, (feed backwards with inverted headstock) why would you need left-handed cutters?
Like has been stated by NUMEROUS people in this thread, you don't need left handed cutters on a router table, and it is upside-down.

If you adjusted feed direction, (feed backwards with inverted headstock) why would you need left-handed cutters?
Like has been stated by NUMEROUS people in this thread, you don't need left handed cutters on a router table, and it is upside-down.

Depends upon what you do with the cutter.
Most router bits have a shaft on one end and that is the only way it attaches to the router.
Now shaper cutters can be reversed so the same 'end' is adjacent to the table which gets reversed when going from above to below the table. When the cutter is reversed, the rotation must also be reversed.
Yes no need to reverse rotation if the cutter is mounted to the arbor the same. When going from over to under, the shaper cutter would then be upside down relative to the table top.

But now, you have to think up a scenario where I couldn't just flip my workpiece over ...

Ok I see where this is going. And if we are going to all the trouble of making our ss as versatile as possible in regard to over and under operation it would be nice (though maybe not necessary) to make it reversible to give that extra dimension.
Put that on the bucket list of future projects. While the router aspect of it does not interest me because I have a decent router table already and am building a nicer one; what does interest me is the shaper aspect.
