Well, most of the reference I have shows a handwheel not a lever. Second, the machine had been used for decades by the previous owner so I assumed he had put it together right. Smartest thing I have done lately was to sign up for the forum so experienced people could spot the problem right away. Now that I fixed it, yeah, I should have spotted it. Oh, well. Still trying to get essential parts from eBay, such as the miter gage. I think I have the original 1983 saw blade. The last owner had lots of lathe accessories, don't know if he ever used the saw function.

I bet I run across more, similar errors on the previous owner's part. If so, I'll ask for help again.

Missing sheet metal screws should be available at the local real hardware store, a project for next week.

I wood knot expect you to know that the handle pointed the wrong way. Before ya go to the hardware store, make sure the tinnerman is still there.

There appears to not be one in the pix.

Take the belt cover off and drop the motor pan to access the 'indentation' in the headstock casting where the clip mounts. You should be able to see other tinnerman nuts for all the screws just removed.

Actually the screws be 'self threading' screws rather than sheet metal screws. Do not confuse self tapping screws with self threading screws.

What I am amazed at is that it was backwards when he got it from the PO. Since the PO seems to have mostly 'turned' perhaps the protruding lever was getting in his way.

Actually he had the lever removed and stored in a tool box. No need to raise the table for lathe work, right?
