The SS pkg has pin jaws in the set offered but I don't know if that's a good price or deal????. I recently ordered a cutting ste and saw almost the same set with more cutters on amazon for 79 bucks. Guess i will find out what I have when I get started????!

All SS spindles are the same diameter (5/8") no matter the model or when made.

The quill shaft has not changed from the model 10 through today's Mark 7. The other two shafts have not changed since the Mark 5 Greenie. All are 5/8".

I can't tell you which chuck to buy since I have never tried the Nova. I have the Oneway Talon chucks and so do most of the local turning club members, but that is likely due to having a local source for the Oneways. I'm a pretty novice turner, but I have attended classes with several pro turners and they seem to think highly of the Oneways and Vicmarcs. I don't know if there is a Shopsmith adapter for the Vicmarcs. One difference between the Oneway and the Nova is that the Nova is "righty loosey, lefty tighty", if that makes a difference to you.

It's gonna be a one way , one way or the other, (Ha ha a natural pun). So now...., talon vs SS stronghold for the SS mk7 Pros & Cons.?....performance , cost, attachments, jaws /accessories, size ???
Is one of these better or reccomended over the other for the SS?
I think the SS has a 16 1/2 inch span or swing and the stronghold is rated for 16"+ .
Are there more jaws and attachments available for the stronghold as compared to the talon?..or is the preferred use of the talon based on size and equal application or what. Like I said , I am a newbie and really don't want to make no " if I woulda , coulda , shoulda mistakes if I can help it. I have already out lived most of my previous generations age so I value and cherish all time and info I have to help on this purchase .

...I have learned...it's not about how much time you think u have left In life, it's what u do with the time u are In !

Either Stronghold or Talon would be fine. If you are planning to do large turnings right away, then get the Stronghold. Otherwise, the Talon is a great chuck - I have three of them. You soon learn that changing jaws in the middle of a project is a pain and that it is very convenient to have another chuck already set up.

Yea , 10-4 on the changing chucks for ease of jaw change. Guess it will be a talon purchase first when Im able to get to it . Like I said though, I'm in no hurry and I haven't even been able to plug the machine in yet let alone play with it.
