Ya John, me too, hokey is being kind, was it foot or hand powered? Reminded me of my mothers old Singer sewing machine that was foot/pedaled powered.

Not sure what's so hokey about this Shopsmith accessory. Everyone who has it says it works as advertised. Is it because you can see the guts? What does the vaunted Rigid look like on the inside? Probably has some equally hokey mechanism.

Well, I guess that is what I thought years ago when it first came out so I never considered it or asked if it really worked. People like it so I will put it on the list.

And if you want an oscillating belt sander, just stick your allen wrench in the Shopsmith belt sander tracking knob, and nudge it a little left or right.

It is not "hokey" if you can leave it set up. But if you are changing modes frequently.....

That criticism can be (and is) leveled against nearly everything Shopsmith-related -- from the changeovers between 5 basic functions to setting up the SPTs. What's so unique about the oscillating spindle sander in that regard?

Why not buy one at the BBS or Harbor Freight on sale for 99.99$, they are all the same except for the disc/arbor colors.

I doubt I will buy one, but if I did I would likely go for the Shopsmith version because I would want variable speed, to be able to use the larger work surface of the Shopsmith table and because I wouldn't want to stock sanding drums that won't fit my Shopsmith drum sander. But to each their own.
