Two things concern/puzzle me.
The control sheave is at fast rather than 'past slow'?
The poly-v belt is being squeezed - that implies the idler sheave has been pushed back??? Hopefully releasing the jammed belt will relieve it.
An alternative to cutting the belt is to remove the speed control and allow the control sheave to open the pulley.

Its been 2 years since I bought my first Greenie and had to change belts for a bad motor belt or Gilmer, I dont remember, but got the 2 new belts, and with all the help here and SS videos and changed out the bearings while I was in there, isnt that the best route to go at this time? Not just a "fix"?

Good point!
It is likely a worn motor belt that created the problem(or contributed to it).
The poly-v belt may also be damaged from the looks of it.
Realize we be trying to help the poor kid get his dad's tool back up and running.
His needing to get $ from dad to pay for all this is not going to help his case with papa!
So I repeat, removing the speed control to allow opening up the idler pulley will not require cutting the motor belt. Yes it likely
needs replacing but . . .

Dad here.
First of all, let say that I am blessed to have a son who has a desire to work with his hands in the shop. Who desired to work with the lathe, and has taken up bowl making.
What I now see happened is this...he was turning a bowl using the speed reducer. He has the speed control on fast, and wanted the bowl to turn faster so he removed the speed reducer, then I am not sure what happened, but we know it blew the circuit breaker. (I was gone at the time). When I returned home we both thought the speed control had been in the extreme slow position. It was in fact it n the fast position.
We cut the poly v-belt off, then I took out the speed control, and re-assembled it, ....well, I got in over my head. I have cried uncle.. I know that you good folks could get us back to a functioning machine. Vacation plans, then anther trip away from home for work next week.....Da-Ta-Da-Ta-Da....
It never been professional serviced before as far as I know , so I am sending it our to Jacob's repair shop.
But I have never lost sight of being thankful that Aberaham is working in the shop! The only thing I would do differently is this. (Dad's, take this advice). When we went into the shop to follow your instructions, I would have had the attitude of you "here is the screwdriver, and I am here to help". My actions resulted in me having the screw driver in hand, and it left Abe watching, then bored, then on to something else. So it was a missed opportunity.

Worn belt.
Set to fast.
Sudden removal of load.
Belt jammed between the control and idler sheave.
Motor sees sudden increase in load(belt locked). Breaker trips.
. . . . .
Glad Dad is not angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope Aberaham is not discouraged!!!

Bill, how do you suggest freeing the motor belt so that the system can be lubricated and the new motor belt installed.
It can be difficult to get the motor belt from under the sheave vanes. I normally have to remove the belt from the motor sheaves and then pulling and tugging the belt I can get it above the tip of the vanes. I normally just cut the belt. I stay at least 3 letters away from FAST and SLOW positions when using a worn belt after unsticking it until I can replace the belt.
