Bandsaw burns wood

Cranked it down to A after spraying some graphite on bearings. Much better and quieter and the "Screetch" is pretty well gone.

Have Jacob Anderson's tune-up so will do that but can't keep his CD running on my computers ... keeps stopping so learning to take it apart and clean may take some time.

This is not rocket science. You can tear down and rebuild the bandsaw without the help on that CD and if it turns out you can not - well...you always have the CD and you have the forum.

There is bound to be someone here that can talk you back together.

Seriously, take a few pictures as you tear it down and go for it. It is not that hard. When you get it back together, you may need some assistance to get it tracking correctly but that will be about all (and maybe not even then).

in a previous thread, talked about mounting bandsaw on right side of shopsmith. same side as saw blade and table are mounted. do this, and bandsaw will run backwards..... i have tried it and yes, lots of smoke and noise..... thought i would bring it up again as a reminder it wont work that way . always mount on left side of power head.....

Is it correct that the smoke and noise only occurs if you try to cut something....OR....does the bandsaw NOT LIKE to be run backward.

The blade guide(on the rear) would be effective only on the blade as it exited the upper wheel rather than as the blade entered the upper wheel.

Add to that the blade will be moving up from the bottom(under the table) and would push the workpiece up off the table.

In conclusion, tain't a gud thaing to try!!!:eek:

Looks like I'm going to have to take it apart a bit to change the tires. Noticed pretty significant cracks all around the tires. I don't have a manual for the Bandsaw..is there one online?
It sure quieted down when I lubed it...don't know if that will hold but it's 100% better than before. Everything seems square and level though. I doubt the blade has ever been changed but it seems to cut ok. (but how would I know...first time ever used it much).

Yes, JPG, it is obvious that it WON"T WORK when running backward but it doesn't seem like there would be unusual noise and smoke as a result of that --- unless one tries to cut. That was my question!

dusty: the smoke, noise, etc. starts the instant you touch the blade with piece of material!!!!!!!!!! otherwise didnt seem any different than the blade running the right direction.

Thank you for the response. That is exactly what I would have expected. It is good to know that the bandsaw itself doesn't mind being run backward.

You may not have to replace the tires. Mine were pretty dry and cracked. See this thread:

I put "belt conditioner" on mine. I haven't used silicon yet as recommended but the belt conditioner worked great.
