I will add my welcome to the forum knottymind. Sounds like you have a nice set-up in your one man shop. Whenever you get the picture thing figured out, we all enjoy seeing other folks shops/work, etc. We are a friendly bunch here and share a wide spectrum of knowledge and experience. Hello, I am Lee Walker. I live in Powell, TN, which is just West of Knoxville. I am 75 years old. I have been a member of this forum for several months now. I just realized that I should have introduced myself to the group, when I joined, here goes. My interest in sawdust started while in high school. I made a lamp, cedar chest and a sewing machine cabinet for my mom. After high school I attended a demonstration of the SS and immediately fell in love. However, I didn’t have the money to buy one nor a place to put it, so I got married instead. If that don’t throw a wrench in your plans. Well to make a short story long, 50 years, three sons, 5 grand children and 3 great grand children later, I got my used Mark V 500 from E-bay. Two months ago I got my second Mark V 500 from Craigs list. I got a band saw, strip sander, and jointer with the deals. They all are dirty, and rusty, but seem to run OK. I don’t have any plans to rebuild any of them. They will work just fine for making bird houses. I had much rather make saw dust than to clean rust. Besides, I am beginning to get dangerously shaky, honestly I am beginning to be afraid to use the tools. I will be able to spend more time watching birds and read the forum. I am a retired mechanical designer. Isn’t it great how a title makes you feel important. I have worked for Combustion Engineering, Chrysler Corp, Air Products, Radiation, DuPont for 20 years, and retired with ARC (Atlantic Research Corp)

Let me take this opportunity to say I am thankful to be associated with this forum. There are so many knowledgeable persons here willing to help with any subject. Everyone is friendly also. Welcome Lee from a neighbor about 190 miles west (as the crow flies) of you here in Lewisburg, TN. Didn't quite take me as long as you to get my Shopsmith, first time I saw one was at a County fair in Pomona, Calif in the 80's and fell in love with it and finally got one after I moved here to TN in 1990. After seeing one again at a mall in Cool Springs in 1993 I finally broke down and bought one. I also started out in wood when I was in junior high school and I think the first project I did was a wooden leaf shaped serving bowl that I cut the shape with a band saw and then learned how to hollow it out with chisels. Love turning now and making things for my grandkids. I am also semi retired now and plan on getting into more projects. Looking forward to reading you upcoming posts.
