I have orderd a lift assist two weeks ago. I wish SS would be a little more responsive.

Sad to say that two weeks is not an unusual wait time. However be assured that it WILL arrive asap(Emphasis on 'possible').
Kudos on the leg alteration. Maybe some of those 'tall' turners who complain about the centers being too low will have a similar inspiration. Unfortunately they would be decreasing stability, whereas you increased it by way of lower center of gravity.

Maybe you could post a photo of your modification, for others who might have a similar challenge. I would never have thought to do that. Welcome to the group. I'm not a woodworker, no matter how hard I try. I once had a carpenter tell me I was the only person alive who could cut a crooked line with a miter box.
I can't believe all that I have learned here, many times from other member's photos and descriptions.
