A great idea keeps getting better!

And here's one for the inventors: How about making something like the Incra Gauge, where once you calibrate the "zero" position you can dial in (or set it to) the exact depth of cut you need.

Do you have (or know of) an Incra Gauge that measures depth of cut and is compatible to the Mark V.

If yes, please let me know which one.

Incra makes a marking gauge that might serve your purpose. It measures in 1/32" increments.

I haven't tried it, but shouldn't there be a way to set the adjustable stop collar to "zero" when the saw blade tips are just at table level, then "dial in" the desired depth of cut?

And how deep a cut would you desire? 1/16" per thread.

How many threads does it have? 12 to 16???? or, how long is the thread? 3/4" to 1"????

Kinda lacking for deeper cuts.


How about a set of slip on pieces of plastic pipe of carefully dimensioned lengths, and use the collar as a zero adjustment/fine tuner. The pipes could be slipped on below the collar so as to not have to zero in each one. Mount the collar high on the tube and calibrate it for zero depth with the collar also resting on a reference(zero) pipe and the carrier. The collar could stay there and not need to be re-positioned unless a different blade is used, or lower table positioning is needed for some other operation.

To set cut depth, raise the table(with the zeroed in collar pre set), slip the depth control pipe(shorter than the 'reference pipe' by the desired depth of cut) onto the table tube BELOW the collar, and lower the table onto it. The pipes need to be have a segment cut out to allow for insertion onto the table mount tube.

Yes - exactly! The problem is that this gauge is too long.

Or... just pick up a 10-ER and use it when you want a positive exact amount of adjustment. :)
Maybe Bill Hayes has a good picture of the table lifter crank screw?
There should be a way to apply that concept to a Mark V carriage.
Isn't it amazing how complicated we can make a simple tip that works well as is? :D :D :D

Yep! 1/13 inch per revolution of the crank! I think I would use an all thread with a screw pitch of 16(or 20).:D We would still need a calibrated spacer to set the arm position on the table tube!;)

I would think that you could just set the highest saw blade tip at zero with the top surface of the table then set the lift arm at a start point?
I believe that the old DeWalt RAS crank was calibrated to move at 1/8th inch per revolution.
What is the rate of lift of the Mark V rack and pinion lift?

Two inch height per revolution. 8 teeth on tube/inch, 16 teeth on gear.
