Here's a couple projects made with 1/4" box joints. Found out that to make 12" joint, it takes a bit of adjusting.

The last two show 1/4" box joints around a curved area. It is one of my tool boxes.

Those jigs are the simple answer. I built two of them about 20 years ago for my Shopsmith. Somewhere in the old information, Shopsmith had the instructions for them. I made a 1/4" one and a 3/8" one for larger boxes. Then you simply set your dado blade to the correct width to cut each slot just right with one pass.
I've made dozens of boxes over the years using my homemade jigs.

I can't imagine the hours into that.
