I searched the forum but I couldn't find a thread on this. Pictures of what to do would be great, even if it's just to identify the parts! All suggestions are welcome.

depends on whether you disassemble it or not. Disassembly is not too difficult, and you can move it with one person. Basic tools are screwdrivers, a 9/16" wrench, an adjustable wrench (for the nuts inside the legs), a 5/32" allen wrench (the one that comes with the shopsmith, but bring one just in case), and a ~2' length of 2x4 to help get the headstock off.

If you have a truck - no disassembly is needed. If you have a car, I would go in stages until it fits. Headstock first, then legs. After that, if the base assembly won't fit as is (often it will), then unbolt the bench tubes and unscrew the way tubes.

I have bought 4 and 2 of them I did myself, the other 2 I had my 12 year old son with me to help. 2 were in a pickup, no disassembly just load it strap it down and go. the other two were in the back of my Jeep and it tool me about 10 minutes to break it down and drive away, in both cases the previous owner lokked on in silent amazment as the SS very quickly turned into a pile of parts.

If it has all of those spt's then you are getting a good deal at 3-4 hundred. Maybe that's why you haven't heard back. He might have found someone to go higher. Around Northen VA you can expect a hefty price for the lathe itself (with the table saw etc) but add in the bandsaw, jointer, original jigsaw etc and the price climbs fast. Considering the seller knows what they have that is.

My friend's wife said she would like to post the SS on Craigslist to see how much they can get:( . On the bright side, i've got two appointments tomorrow to look at SS for sale! I will come back with something soon for around 400. I've learned that you probably have to hunt for a long time to find one that works for less than that. Hopefully I'll be posting pictures very soon. Then I can oficially be part of the club.

I found a great shopsmith this weekend! It needs some maintenance but the owner started it and it sounded awesome. More pictures are coming but it does have a lot of surface rust. Without doing a full restoration, is there an easy way to get rid of rust? I've already started with wd40 and a scotch brite scrubber. That seems to be working well. Any comments on what I should do are welcome!

I think so. The other thing is, if it has new way tubes, is there rust in the headstock holes that would scratch the new tubes? If there is, how do you get the rust out of the headstock?
