Incidently, I use a piece of 1x3 that I keep in the shop for the very purpose of testing the blade height. I learned this at a SS Traveling Academy.

Jeff - Assuming your square is square - then Dusty has made a good point! Go ahead and continue sanding until the entire side has been sanded. Then see if it's square with the face that was on the table. It should be!
Like you say - something is wrong.
We are now to the point where I have to ask dumb questions. Without hurting your feelings, let me ask - - . When setting the table to 4 degrees - the zero mark on the trunnion moves to the right only four of those little marks on the indicator - correct? I ask this as, more movement to the right would cause you to sand the top of the edge.
Also, we have to assume your sandpaper is tight to the disk and all locking handles on the Mark V have been snugged down. Correct?

No, I chose to use the 1x3. They used something smaller at the TA.

Thanks everyone for the help on the jointer. I must have one of the blades set higher than the others. That seems to make sense to me. I will have to build one of the magnetic jigs and try again.
I bought the magnets then didn't make the jig. Too many projects too little time. Somehow there is always time to go back and do it again.

It is a new shopsmith square and I tested it to verify that it was.

That is what it does. and I verify that it is square by using the above square on the table and disk.

I'll go to the shop tomorrow and do some tests with my Wixey. This might be something the Wixey is really good for. It certainly isn't my favorite tool for aligning the Shopsmith.

Your making this too complicated. Either your square is off or the wood has a slight bevel.
Think about it, if you set the disk square to the table and then sand but the disk is hitting the top of the wood first that says one of two things happened.
Either the table is not square or the wood isn't. Like someone said sand the wood until the disk is sanding the full surface and then check it with the square. If it is perfectly square then the wood wasn't square to start or the square is off. Figure this problem out then figure out what is wrong with your table indicator. I suspect a bad square.
