OR stumble and try to catch yourself using the drill press to do so. As an older fart, I have to think that way. I have been known to stumble or trip over my shadow as it is.

The hex socket is not intended to be used with a wrench. I consider it is a economical(cheaper) alternative to the earlier 'special' part.
I do not consider the smaller non-knurled head to be an improvement!!!!:(
They went the same route on the 500 front table extension.

Why is it a hex socket then.

It could just be a knob but if it was you'd have to be careful not to crank down too hard.

Off the shelf screws are cheaper than special order knob etc.

I seem to recall a suggestion in one of the sawdust sessions mentioning that screw as a change. If memory serves, the other nice thing was that you could use a wrench to
loosen the knob if it was stuck for some reason.
