Thank you all for your knowledge.

Now another question...

What size is the bandsaw blade in inches and is there a good aftermrket source for them??

I've been looking in the SS catalogue and I do not see anything that ells me the size of the blade for the 11 inch bandsaw.

6' +- 1/2".

They are available from many sources. Just make sure they are 72".

myoung;
I have tried a couple of sources. Woodcraft stores have 72" blades made by Olsen but I was less than thrikked with Olsen. SS has a sale on right now and I would buy from SS. We do a toy car program for a camp for severely handicapped kids. We have cut about 400 of these things to date this year and the SS blade is still cutting OK.

Ya know that ya can edit your previous post?
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

also right in your "backyard" so to speak is Hartville Hardware. they will make any blade that you wish while you wait, and
the third weekend in november is their big tool sale. i will probably demo by turning pens.

I've used the "wood slicer" resaw blade from Highland Woodworking with excellent results.

You know, I really live in Greentown, so Hartville is no more than 20 minutes from home. I never thought of them...but now I know.

I ask because the two SS band saws that I purchased have thin blades that I wish to replace before I start making pen blanks out of some stuff lying around. Nothing exotic, but I have a 55 gallon barrel full of scraps that is now brimming after many years. I bet I can cut many a pen blank and still make a only small dent in the volume. I suspect I can also take smaller scraps, glue and press them together for various colors and textures for the more exotic looking product. This woud equate to thousands of blanks. I might not be able to turn them all in a lifetime...but the cost is good....
