See Post #6 I had forgotten about that until that 'reminder'. I had always used oven cleaner, but did not have carbide blades, so as they say: Old habits die hard!

Westley's Bleche White Tire Cleaner is another product that does a great job on cleaning blades. Just spray it on and wipe off with paper towels. If you really cook the pitch onto the blade, you'll need a tooth brush or small brass brush to remove the pitch, but generally just spraying and wiping off is sufficient.

I doubt it! Dawn (detergent) is soft on the hands. Better give a call to Procter and gamble if you think they put lye in it.
Housewives wouldn't use a lye product on their hands. (and either would I - since I do all hand washed dishes in this house)

Dishwasher detergent of the type distributed in a protective bag and opened just prior to pouring it into the detergent dispenser compartment in a ***machine***.charlese wrote:I doubt it! Don't blame you! But that's not the stuff to use.
For blade cleaning just use the liquid detergent. The same stuff you would use in the kitchen sink. No kidding - It works to clean saw blades. Works pretty fast and offers NO HARMFUL EFFECTS to either - the blade or you.
There is absolutely no reason to think of harsh cleaners to clean a gunked up saw blade. I believe the thinking toward harsh cleaners is really mis-guided.
