OK, a couple of months ago, Woot.com had a footpedal toilet flusher. Out of the footpedal, comes a shielded cable. (Think bike brake cable.) On the other end, is a strong alligator clip, and a counter weight. When you step on the pedal, the alligator clip, which is attached to the chain in your bowl, pulls up the flapper on the toilet.

I got 3 of them, one is on my commode. Works just fine.

Here's MY idea. Loop the cable around from the back side of my ER headstock, and hook the clip on one of the quill advance handles, so it will pull up on the handle, advancing the quill. The ER return spring might not be strong enough to return it, but I'm pulling up, and have the counterweight. I could also go over the front of the headstock, but I like having the cable out of the way.

Why would the 10ER quill return spring 'not be strong enough'?;)
