Taking a simplistic approach, it is 3 pieces of curly maple and designed to take back apart and throw in a drawer when not being used.

The trick, obviously, is getting the slots tight but not too tight. Any slop really shows up in how it sits. I shoulda made a drawing. The dimensions aren't too critical, but it has to have enough "shelf" to hold the book without tipping over backwards.

It would be neat to have the dimensions of each piece. I am certain one could figure it out. Then again I already have several of those figure it out projects going:rolleyes: Jim

Unfortunately, it's now a hundred miles from here. I'll look around the shop the next time I'm out there and see if I kept the template I drew up for it on graph paper.

One blessing to living in Virginia about 12 miles from Monticello (Jefferson's Private Home), was frequent visits to his home. Each time we visited I noticed additional features of his office and desk. Not only did he enjoy using this lazy susan reading/writing device but his arm chair was fitted with candelabras on each arm to assist him with having a lit work area. Remember in his day there were no electric lights. My favorite memory was his bedroom adjacent to his desk area. Jefferson had a bucket of Icy water brought in every morning before he got out of bed he dipped his feet in that icy water. How many of us begin our day that way? Jim

OK, I'm slow but I do eventually get there (sometimes). I found half the template, measured it, edited the picture and made a pic of the template. All just for you Jim!!

I would suggest making a mock-up of cardboard or foamboard (posterboard) to revise the form as suits you and to work out where to locate the slots.

I have made almost a dozen of these slide together dual functionStands page 56-57. (App to display American Woodworker Issue takes a while to load, but all the dimensions and instructions are there.)

I have made simple versions from pine, Bamboo Flooring, and pine breadboarded glueups. A [ATTACH]16305[/ATTACH] for different widths of material was made to locate the position of the 22 1/2 degree slot. The smaller sizes are very nice, useful.

Advantages are:
1 Two configurations Stand and Rack, just change the way the parts are put together.
2 Ships Flat.
3 Simple.
4 Easily modified for materials or design elements.

Magazine rack configuration on left, book holder configuration on right.
