Shop Apron

Unfortunately for me:rolleyes: , SWMBO confiscated it for a future gift. My birthday is in April, and I will be able to use it after that.

Not on the 'Apron' subject, but just had to say my admiration for your wife's manner!
We used to do that around our house also. However now-a-days we will buy our gifts - maybe months earlier than the celebration date, and put them to use immediately.

This does two good things - - - and gives one bad thought.
- It probably leads to another gift at the right time,
- We don't have to have to suffer the anticipation of how nice it will be when the gift is available,
- At our ages, we'd best get the enjoyment from the gift NOW, as we're not absolutely sure we'll have any time 'after'.

I have both types of SS apron. My observations:
Denim apron: most recent aquisition. I like the material and fit. Really like the pencil pocket upper left chest. Don't understand the loop on the upper right chest. Tape measure or cell phone clip? Two large pockets at bottom, just large enough for square, allen wrench, folding rule, screwdriver. Hangs OK on my neck but could get heavy loading too much stuff in the pockets. Waist tie tapes a little short for me. Does not collect as much sawdust in pockets as "World's Most Versatile Apron".
"World's Most Versatile Apron": Really like cross back straps. Like even more the buckle/fastner at waist. Have to empty sawdust from front lower pockets hourly or I lose tools in there, especially when turning. Split in lower edge makes it comfortable to sit or kneel in. Material is serious duck about as stiff as new Carrharts. Too many pockets. I haven't been able to develop a habit of which tool goes in what pocket, so it is a perpetual hunt for where I stashed it last. Wife refuses to allow it in washing machine (afraid of sawdust contamination) so is still as stiff as new after 2 years. Maybe I will take it out on the patio later in spring to use the pressure washer on it.
Both now hang on handy pegs and I grab whichever is nearest and/or has the tool I want in its pocket.

Yes the Worlds Most Versatile Apron has an Allan Wrench Pocket in fact it has two, one one each the left and right sides of the lower row of pockets. Althought the shoulder straps do not have snaps or buckles thay are totally adjustable including the ability to re-thread both straps. The snap and adjustability of the waist strap completes a well rounded apron. Yes it wins the race with more pockets than I have managed to figure out how to fill. Well okay I do find myself vaccuming sawdust out of them on occasion. I have three or four of the denim aprons that are used only by my grandchildern. If the Worlds Most Versatile Apron were introduced in a color less likely to show dirt, I would likley be amongst the first purchasers. Then again if mine wears out I would buy another White one. I too admire her. It is easier to be forgiven then to ask permission, so sometimes I just have to roll with her wishes rather then to put my foot down.

She is not unaware of this; that is why I can't put my foot down.

At 49, I'm not quite old enough for that argument.

I Truly relate to your situation(s)! My bride and I have had 50yrs together and sometimes it seems like only 20. (When the Kids left) It's all good!

Congratulations Chuck . 50 years is something to be proud of. Both my folks and my wifes folks have seen that mark. At 29 years next month, I am well on my way too. Hey... wait just a dog gone minute! Wedding anniversary comes before B-day:D . I should get that apron next month:p .

I was reading the old post on this forum and stumbled on this one. I picked up an apron from Michael's craftstore (they are inexpensive and the LOML works there). It has the neck strap and pockets in the front. I usually ware it backwards, to keep dust out of the pockets.

I really like the long blue denim apron, but after using it for some time it is now being modified;

The wearysome neck strap has been cut off, and my sewing whiz wife has made "cross the back straps" out of matching blue denim that she purchased at Jo Ann Fabric. This modification also required me to install 1/2" grommets at each back corner of the apron.

She has also removed the flap that covers the pockets. While this does tend ot collect more chips in the pockets, it makes it much easier to reach in for small items.

Finally, she has embroidered my name on the apron, closely matching the Shopsmith red.
