I love estate auctions too. I always forget to factor in the buyers premium, though:mad: Oh well, it's only money and you can always earn more!

When I bought my first SS, my Boss got very excited, since she had seen them before, and thought maybe more projects would get done. Once I had it tuned up, I was using the lathe, and invited her out to see what I had done. She wanted to try it! 2 hours later, I had to practically beg her to get my Shopsmith back!

It hasn't worked for golf yet, but there is always hope. My Boss and I returned from a woodworking show yesterday, and we had a great time. She is a quilter, and I do attend shows with her, and you would be amazed at how much fun they are.

We have been together 40 years, my Boss and I!

Back in '83, my SWMBO rolled her eyes when my teen age son and I returned from a Shopsmith demo all excited about our purchase of a new model 500. We were not so well heeled back in those days. Fortunately it did not take very long for her to realize that it was a good investment.

She has also become a quilter. She has a book showing thousands of quilt shop locations. When we go on a trip there are many stops. I don't mind. Sometimes there is a Woodcraft store nearby.

Actually, there are some quilting related woodworking projects; quilt racks, sewing machine cabinets, cutting tables, ect. I need to get busy.

My wife of 37 years is also a quilter. I find it interesting how often new Quilting machines or supplies are justification for new tools. Yes quilting also means shop projects. Once our house sells and we relocate the shop project list will be a long one. My wife is planning for all new sewing and cutting tables as well as storage for her toys and yard goods. It will be rewarding for me seeing her happy. Our shopping trips like yours generally include quilt shops and Woodcraft stores. The last time we were in Denver I also found time to drool over a Rockler store. Jim

It wouldn't be a ShopSmith unless it could sew, embroider, knit, crochet and do macrame.

Welcome guvnuh. I'm an Iowa defector also. Grew up in Marshalltown about an hour or so north of DesMoines. Headed to the west coast in 62, the winter that the snowplows were stuck, and been enjoying the San Diego sunshine year around ever since. I'm lucky enough to roll my ss out year around. Just can't find enough time!

Good point Tim. I'd have to opt for the upholstry package so I could redesign my motorcycle's seats.
I'm a defector from the midwest also, central Illinois.
Moved to the LA area where the weather was great but the overcrowding is an issue.
Now I'm in an isolated Nor-Cal area where we can see snow again... like last week.

That would be one of the SPT's that you could buy for it.

My son, son-in-law, and I, all have Shopsmiths. Our wives are all involved in sewing and quilting. My daughter in fact hosts a Thursday night quilt group.......hmmm.....maybe we guys need to have a Shopsmith group.
