Remember that this is dependent upon a laser line. I use a Craftsman 4 in 1 Level (Laser Trac) part number 948247 to provide that.
The final version of this will have the two drive shaft holes enlarged to accommodate the hubs rather than the 5/8" shafts.
But from a different perspective...you could just mark the depth of cut right on the blade and read it direct.
SWMBO made that suggestion. Gotta think about that.

Actually marking the blade is not too shabby, although any 'applied' marking will easily wear off and not be very concise. SWMBO's typically do not think past the obvious!:D
Speaking of which(the obvious), drill alignment? We gonna bore out the quill etc.

Depth of Cut Gauge

This thing worked, sorta, but it is being abandoned as a bad idea. Its' usefulness is limited to times of the day when I normally do not work in the shop. The laser line, essential to the gauge, is not visible in the sun light unless I wear special glasses. Too much fuss.
Just look at how much the blade is exposed - no fuss. If critical, measure it.

That has worked well for years now.
