OK, so i used a 7/16 NF die on the end of the motor shaft after what seemed like an hour with emery cloth, and I got it back together. It runs, but now the speed adjustment knob has no effect on running speed. by "bolt", i meant the the one at the end of the motor shaft.

The "A" casting may be a heavier duty housing, but not much room to work on it! So I will do a better job looking through the maintenance section and go through the headstock. At least It looks like I won't need a different motor now.
It appears to be stuck turning at about 60% speed.

You have a left hand die? That nut and shaft had a left hand thread!

Can you move the floating sheave by hand(against the spring tension)?

Does the control sheave move when adjusting speed knob?

FWIW, a right hand thread on the motor shaft/nut will work itself loose!

That is not good.... I hadn't considered the thread direction. I am figuring the issue is with the control sheave. Should I drill a hole through the nut and shaft and pin it? You can move the sheave on the motor, but not much, as the spring is fairly compressed.

Is the belt impeding the floating sheave movement?

If you can, get the control sheave set to fast(idler pulley fully open. Then remove the motor belt.(see below)

Now concentrate on the floating sheave(motor shaft) and the control sheave(idler shaft) operating freely as they should. With the belt removed, the sheaves will be easily moved with no regard to possible damage due to the pulleys not rotating. The sheaves should freely move about 1". The spring on the motor shaft will need to be overcome to move the floating sheave. The control sheave can be disconnected from the quadrant so as to allow it to move freely(the speed control/quadrant gear/porkchop need be set to fast to get it out of the way as well as to connect/disconnect the sheave[loop]).


"Below"
The motor belt is installed/removed with the speed control set to fast(idler pulley open). That places the motor belt near the periphery of the motor pulley. The belt can be easily put on/off by manually pulling the motor pulley open which will cause the belt to go slack.

Caveat! Do not let the sheave slip and bang into the fan sheave half of the motor pulley.

I would try blue loctite before drilling and pinning the nut/shaft.
