Well, this is good news, perhaps. Given that a lumber yard exists, the 1 3/4 x 3 3/4 {square corner} lumber yard 2x4s, if of comparable to stud quality and not more than, say 30 to 50% more in cost, wood be the way to go if one wanted to mill his own clean 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 2x4s, seems to me. I'm betting that would still be cost preferable to the lumber yard "finished" version of the same thing.
Next project that is whut I'll look for.

I can see, I think, that using the 2x4s as is (as was?) would have made as worthy a bench, and saved emptying my SS ShopSucker an extra time, not to mention all the work. {"Work"? Nah-- fun!} But I know that when the poly dries I'll be happier with this one.

BTW I doubt any 'Lumber Yard' could supply those non-std 2x4's. A Lumber Mill would!

I'm at the point where I've learned enough to know how little I know, and the forum is a great helpful resource.

Speaking of 2x4s, the final irony:
I milled the studs to 1-13/32 x 3-1/4. Good lookers, most of 'em, and since they'll be doubled up there are opportunities galore to hide any rough spots.
Straight, smooth, flat, square, square corners, uh--- wait sec- square corners, square corners, something don't sound right...

Ah, so-- once all the laminating's done I'll need to chamfer or roundover most of the outside long corners. That's okay. This way they'll be consistent, and neat.
