I have a great idea!!!
How about a simple wooden block cut to an exact fit by trial and error that would support the table!!!
Oh, yeah... That is where MCCABINETMAKER started us out...
OK, it is still fun reinventing the wheel...
Next week we will rediscover fire.

My Table Height Adjuster was squealing at me when I adjusted so I took it apart and cleaned everything in the mechanism.
When I put the table back on the carriage, I took care to make sure that the Table Height Adjust Handle was at the bottom. Given the gear count previously reported (8/inch), I was going to establish still another relationship to help streamline setup.
Well, that was a flop. I expected that one turn of the Height Adjust Handle would change table height 1 inch. Nope, that did not work out. OKAY, I don't understand gear ratios. Maybe its 2:1 and 1/2 turn will equal 1". Nope, that doesn't work out either.
It's all back together now with no squeal. Mission success.
Residual observation (not necessarily fact): One full turn of the Table Height Adjust will change the table height 2 3/8".
Conclusion: The ring and pinion gears involved here do not result in either a 1:1 or 2:1 change. It is nice to know that there are eight teeth per inch on the riser but that turned out to be useless information. Fact yes, Useless Yes. Well maybe not. I now know that obvious conclusions are not always factual.
The gears inside, Hmmm 16/inch or thereabouts.
My facts cited about were not factual at all. Being prompted by pennview's comment (post #24), I recounted and found 46 teeth in 6 inches. The pinion gear is .906" in diameter. Mathematically, 1 revolution equals 2.608 inches.

I just took some measurements of the table elevation mechanism on my 510 and I found that the teeth on the rack (table upright posts) measure about 7 2/3 teeth per inch (I counted 23 teeth over a span of 3"). For the pinion gear, I counted a total of 20 teeth. So, for one full revolution of the crank, the table rises or lowers about 2.6". Had the rack actually been 8 teeth per inch, you would get 2.5" of elevation for each full turn of the crank.
