I was reading a letter to the editor talking about the changes and decay of youth. All the body art, the short attention spans, the need for new and exciting things, etc. How the nucleus family has decayed, how this is all going to end in doom, and of course how much better it was back when the author was a kid.
The letter was written by a Senator. A Roman Senator, or perhaps Greek, I've forgotten which. But the letter and its lament about youth was many centuries old.
No indeed. The youth of today are no different than the youth of yesterday. Even yesterdays of long long ago.
Question is, Is 'society' better off today than then?
I think it can be debated from both good and bad perspectives.
I do however believe that as 'things' have become 'easier', there is more propensity for cum se cum sa which leads to more docile relations and less hostilities, but not all occupants of this space ship share in that easiness.
That relaxed demeanor makes it more likely that the 'uneased' will try to take advantage.
BTW IIRC It was Aristotle.
Youth today are different as is the world today. Generations before us have stepped up to the challenges before them, but I do think those challenges have become more onerous and the moral rock of yesteryear has eroded.
