Okay, so I haven't had time to go shopping, but do however have lots of scrap wood. I pulled some out and did the tests you recommended JPG, but using my tape measure. And yes, I am planning on picking up a combination square.
So, I set it up first do do the kerf test. I raised the blade up so that it would just knick the wood. Turned off the saw and checked it on the back, it was dead on.
Then I took a piece of wood, put the miter hold down on (and I think this is where some of my problems were. I noticed when I was setting it at 90, that it was off. The set screw was in too far, so I turned that out until it lined up correctly with 90) and that was dead on as well.
So, at least part of my issue was that miter hold down! Dang thing. At least I got that part figured out.
Now, i was looking around, trying to decide if I was going to go out and buy some new wood or what I was going to use for the table. Then I was thinking about it, i have a table that was my grandparents table that was given to me, and one of the supports broke to the point the table was unsafe to use anymore. so I got the okay to break it down. I now have 2 leaves, 2 wings, and the legs that I can use. so i am thinking I may just use one of the pieces of the table to make at least the top of my new table.
