I will climb out on a limb here and offer some 'conclusions/observations'.

The DC 3300 is touted by SS as a dust collector. The larger bag sizes capture smaller dust particles than the smaller bag.

The DD(regular version) is small and as already mentioned will handle a smaller volume than a larger(pro...) model.

The DC3300 is small by comparison to most DC systems.(CFM)

Therefore I conclude the smaller DD is suitable for smaller systems.

Both a shop-vac and the DC3300 are suitable 'suck' sources for the DD.

The velocity required for effective small particle separation by a cyclone is I believe high due to their small mass.

The std DD would probably choke a larger DC by restricting the air flow volume(and reducing air velocity as well).

My limited observations with a small shop-vac indicate effective 'dust' capture by the DD.

The velocity is less with the DC3300, but the DC will capture and remaining dust in it's filter. Advantage is the DC lower bag will not fill up as fast due to the DD capturing essentially all the heavier debris.

I got one of these to try, it goes on a 5 gal bucket. . When I use the DC 3300 with it there is a considerable amount of suction loss. When I use the shop vac there is no loss of suction. I put elbows pointing different directions on the inside. There is very little that gets to the shop vac or the DC bag. The lid cost $12.99, the elbows cost $3.99 each, so I don't have much invested in it for a experiment.

What size are the 'ports'/elbows? Look small.

Bottom line is that no combination of DD and "suck source" will capture the very small, dangerous dust. We are simply trying to collect as much dust as we can with such a small, low-power system......while having it be as efficient as possible at doing this.

It does a rather impressive job at this, realizing it's limitations!


What is the "pro" model DD? I see only the original (in steel and plastic-both same dimensions) and a larger "Super" DD.

I ordered this two weeks ago and it arrived. This is NOT the paperback edition. It is the Cliff's Notes! What's up with that?

Sorry, I meant "Super". The large one that is shown with a dust collector.

They are 2 1/2" I forgot I had to use a adapter so it would go over it and the hose would slide in the adapter. I thought if I liked the way it work I would get one of these, and make a lid for it with some way to latch it down. It would be heavy enough that it would not move around like the bucket does. Put a trash bag in it, and throw the bag away.

It must be the "Super" that is being called "pro". There is no "pro" listed on Oneida's site. My understanding is that there are only 2 sizes of DD.
