and here are the latest pics messing around with installing whatnot and trying out my polishing skills on the uprights...

Those uprights look darned good! When you get the rest of the machine spit-polished to the same standard, it will serve as a "shining" example to us all!

Thanks ya all. Good to hear about the arbor and puller setup. was worried that the arbor might get damaged by the puller feet.

quite pleased about the polishing and glad ya think so. I know it won't ever be at the level of some of you guys, but I would like to get at least to the level of factory crosshatch pattern.

The Rule?? I don't know that there is a rule; however, in my shop the items that mount on the spindle come on and off so frequently that rust doesn't have a chance to form.

So---

A rule might be to frequently dismount those items that attach to the spindle.

I'm glad that you got this taken care of without doing any damage.

I WAS going to suggest you use some of the evapro-rust in the set screw hole to see if that wood loosen it up.

Yes and BEEG, evaporust will remove the black oxide from the shaft. It is color blind!;)
