Here is today's playful project from the scraps - cedar door mat, unfortunately a bit small at 18" wide.

Today is Thursday Apr 23 here in KY. Is CA two days behind?

Today's project -- saw a video and had to try this. A pen with Celtic knot made from embedded coke can. The wood was $2 from Woodcraft and labled "Mystery Wood" which I assume means the label fell off and they don't know what it is. The lighting is a bit deceptive, as both upper and lower sections are the same color.

Oak handles have a thin maple cap on top for better contrast with paint.
Cut blanks 11" x 2" x 1 3/4", drilled end, then painted top surface black.
Carved relief on a CNC using a 90 degree V bit and a 1/8" flushcut bit for flat areas. The maple capped handles were cut deep enough to reveal wormy oak beneath.
Cut tapers on Shopsmith using a homemade jig.
Put dab of two part epoxy in mounting hole, then using a bolt to keep them aligned, hammered a pair of standard hex nuts into base.
Rounded off edges using hand plane. Light sanding. Finished with BLO.
Drank beer.
