Ended up getting the 510 for 415$. Didn't get home till late so will post tomorrow everything that came with it. Any suggestions for a new owner? Are manuals available in pdf?

Congrats on your purchase! I told you one would come along if you waited.

The first thing to do is what not to do: Don't move the speed dial unless the spindle is turning either under its own power or by hand (a sanding disk attached to either the quill or top rear shaft works as a grip).

The second thing to do is read this "new owner" post: http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/maint ... t7092.html It has links to the "Sawdust Session" videos, which include demonstrations on how to maintain, lube and rehab a Shopsmith. Also that post has a link to a maintenance pdf.

The full manuals are all available for purchase from Shopsmith. Highly recommend you get the manual for major every piece of equipment you got.

Some manuals are 'available' in pdf, but I recommend the oem printed ones. Getting vintage specific ones may be difficult.

Is there a way to post pics from a phone? About to go do an inventory.

Not that I know of. The files can't be more than a certain size (1440 x 1080 pixels and 2 MB if I recall correctly). I always have to edit my photos on the computer. Very annoying.

Some phones allow you to change the resolution of the still camera. My HTC One M8 does not although it allows resolution change for videos. Look in your cameras settings. If you can't change the still camera resolution you can install the Google camera that does allow it. It works on my HTC.

I definitely want to give it a good cleaning, wax, and oil before I use it. Per SS site it was made in 1980. I put the jointer on the left side but the quills (right term, spinning part?) are about an inch off. The handle on the left side has two square nuts holding it in and the jointer seems to be held by those. I have a BS and MS in physics but I must admit for being such a "simple" machine it is fairly complex. All knobs, cracks, levers work fine but they are a little tight. Any tips or tricks I should know? Trying to find some PDFs so I can learn how this beast works. Will probably order the hard copy binders anyway. Anything else I should order? I am completely green and new to this but glad I got a 510 for a decent price, atleast I think. Was 415$ a good deal? I am off work this week so any knowledge you give me will be put to working on this thing and getting it right.

What type of wax?
What type of oil?
Any special way to clean?

You did well!!!! The vac took it over the top, jointers are a dime a dozen around here. Johnsons paste wax. I will let others tell you oil, but I use 20w machine oil. Cant remember the name, big box stores carry it and I get the one with the 6"tube extender.

That would be the drive coupler for your spt's (jointer, bandsaw, etc).

Thanks Bruce! Just watched a YouTube video and the guy had it coupled to a band saw. The jointer is still like an inch above the headstock. Does it matter if jointer is on left or right?
