As a part of the "over the hill gang" I constantly find things that I can no longer do but today I discovered something I can now do that I didn't used to be capable of... We were buying gas for mowing today and I discovered that I can lift and carry over $40 worth of gas at once. I could not do that when gas was .32 cents a gallon :-)
BTW, gas was $3.65 today...

Funny how some (many I know personally) whine constantly about fuel cost but when you watch them drive money seems to be no object...
Tires are still squealing, they still drive 80 MPH in a 50 MPH zone and many will keep the hammer down while approaching a red light and then nearly slide through the red trying to stop.

Often when I'm pumping gas I remember a car I bought once.
I paid 35 bucks for it and it had a full tank of gas.

My best deal on gasoline was in the late '50s and was 10 cents a gallon (on a corner of 4 gas stations during what we used to call a "gas war"). When you compare that to day's price and figure it as a percentage, my stomach starts to quiver. I can't think of anything else that has gone up 3,560 percent in 55 years.

I can... Water. If someone had told me 50 years ago that people would pay less than a buck for a 2 liter bottle of cola but $2 for a 16 oz bottle of water...

Scotch hasn't gone up a lot. Since I drink it neat, the price of water is not a biggie.
Gas was down to 3.62 last week and suddenly, it went back up to 3.71 yesterday.
Heard on TV that Ethanol in gas makes it cheaper (I can't tell) but mileage suffers and long term use MAY cause engine problems. As per usual, the fluffy haired chickie couldn't say WHAT problems. Fear mongers, the whole lot of 'em.

Totally agree. Have you gone to a Casino lately? People feeding those machines like there's no tomorrow. Never ceases to amaze me.

What will the next generation be thinking of 40 years from now? They have those pearly white Cad escalades with yard long tall $10,000 set of wheels, 14 TV screens on-board and snortin' 400 ponies under the hood. Trompin' down the highway like nobody's biz to that casino for some good time. Happy days are here! Woowee.

a little less than 7% a year if my math is correct ----about 2x rate of inflation
