Band saw blade width

Post by buzback »

I recently bought a Mark 5 with a number of attachments that I have to figure out how to use. One is a band saw that has a 1/8" wide blade installed. I want to install a wider blade, maybe 1/4 inch.
So my question is: Can you just switch blades or are there other little support items that have to be installed with it. I got the operators manual off the Shopsmith website but it doesn't go into detail about switching blades.

Just swap out for the blade ya want. Then adjust the guide blocks and tension the blade correctly.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders, molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

Yes, you can just switch the blades. Just like what beeg said, adjust the guides and re tension the blades.
