This might seem like a no brainer to a lot of people, but I am working on a bottle cap catch bucket for a friend to hang on her porch stairs for the beer caps.

I have some red oak that has been laying around for a while, so I pulled some of that out, and I am working on it. I have cut the front and back 6 inches tall, 4 inches wide. The sides are about 3 1/2 inches wide and 6 incehs tall.

My thought is I am going to either dado in so that I can tie all the sides in together to make it hold together stronger. The other thing I was looking at doing was putting the pieces together after dado and drilling a hole down through and putting a dowel through to hold them tight together.

I am going to be making the bottom out of either a piece of plastic or something so that it can be left out and if water gets in it, it will just drain out. And it will be removable so that they can clean out the bucket when it gets too full.

Or, the other thought with the bottom was to have the piece of plastic or whatever the bottom is, to make a drawer kind of so that you can put a garbage can or something under it and just pull out the bottom, have the caps fall in the can, and slide it right back into place.

Can you all see some issues with what I am doing? I have the 4 sides cut, am working on the cuts to hold them together. So now is the time to spot the problems before they come up.

One possibility is to head over to Wal-Mart, Target, etc., and pick up a square plastic food container. Then size the wood sides so the container fits inside. For the bottom of the wood "box," put a couple of slats across the bottom so there is a hole in the bottom so that you can push the container out through the top opening to empty. Drill a couple of holes in the container so water, etc., can drain out.

I had thought about doing that, but wanted to maybe just make a slide of the bottom. otherwise I will just keep the bottom solid in there, drill the holes in it, and they can just take it off the mount and dump it. I haven't decided yet.

Working on making a sled for making the box joints right now so I can put it together.
