Wood Identification

I have some wood that was given to me but I am unsure as to what species it is.

It is hard, relatively heavy and cuts clean (no splintering). It was necessary to feed slow to avoid bogging down.
My wood pile is not large but there are some pieces that I am considering for use as new fences on my cross cut sled (which is under going some upgrades).
