Making another stab at decluttering my world, I was about to toss my wife's old sewing machine cabinet from 40+ years ago that hadn't seen any action for quite some time. Looking it over as I prepared to put it out in the tundra for any passers-by to grab before the trash man picked it up, I admired the turned legs, heft and nicely veneered finish of the obsolete piece. The thought occurred to me that I could take this thing apart, cut it up and rebuild it as an unusual tiny night stand. My wife has been after me to make one for a tight corner of our bedroom. She had no place for her book or alarm clock. Start to finish it took only a few hours. I used some leftover peel and stick veneer tape for edge banding on the top, which I brushed with amber shellac that I also had left over from a previous project. We were both pleased with the result. A 40 year old piece of her past gets another life and the cabinet is saved from the landfill.

I hear you Joe, I was thinking the same thing. I went to google images and found one similar so you can get an idea. Ours no longer had the machine inside and had different style legs etc. Thanks for the kind words!

It's amazing what you can do when you think "outside the clutter." I recognize that clock. The stopped manufacturing that one in 1981.
