I getting ready to glue a garden bench (eastern red cedar) together. It will reside outside, year round, in Minnesota's fine weather. I wondering - am I safe using PVA glue, specifically Titebond III or because of the wet conditions I should go for a polyurethane glue like Gorilla. I've used Gorilla before (see my carriage light avatar) but I think it's messy. But I'm not sure Titebond III is waterproof like the label says.

Looking for your 2 cents or real life experiences. Thanks

Polyurethane is great but cannot stand UV rays. If it's a painted piece then P and L would work well. If it's not to be painted but stained and sealed the key is going to be good joinery. No glue really lasts when wet, dry and exposed to the sun. Wood simply moves too much. Great glues are out there and Manu 2 part automotive adhesives are just right for exterior wood projects. I can't recall the names right now but look for any automotive sealants and adhesives for things that will stand up to all forms of weather.

Titebond III should be fine.

I used Titebond III on outside gate mortice and tenon joints a year ago here in Fargo, North Dakota and they are doing their job just fine.
