Just a quick project to help the Mother-In-Law with her new bread-mixing machine. It's a nice heavy mixer that she can't manually move, so I made a little cart for it. The cart has some tiny fixed-axle plastic wheels that I got from a trashed TV swivel-stand. It's all made from one plank of hickory wood I had. Also I added a little "brake stand" made from a recycled knob, toilet brass-bolt, and a furniture-fastener. There's a little bit of rubber-coat on the foot of the bolt to made the brake-action less abrasive on the counter-top:

Very Cool! I have nearly the exact same problem. What is it you call a "furniture-fastener"? A photo of the underside would be appreciated.

Wow, I thought I could go and find these reused wheels on the Web to refer you to, but no luck so far. Anyway, each wheel is about 3/4" diameter, made of plastic or UHMW. Each wheel has a simple steel rod serving as a (fixed) axle. The underside of the board has 4 wheels installed. Each wheel is given some clearance-room in the underside of the board, that I drilled with a ~ 1" Forstner bit.

I was happy to use that arrangement because I thought the 4 aligned fixed-axles would restrict the cart's movement to one line, and simplify the need for brakes. I actually made the motional axis a little bit diagonal to the axis of the boards, so the "brake stand" at the available corner is closer to the motional axis than it would be with a strictly fore/aft rolling motion arrangement.

Yeah, I thought way too much about all that stuff. In real practice, the MIL pretty much rolls the breadmaker-cart the way she used to drive her cars.... a little on the herky-jerky side.

Craig, hickory is basically a wild pecan. Use hickory nuts in any recipe you'd use pecan nuts.

I was kidding. Hickory nuts (or at least the shag bark variety) are tough to get out of the shell without pulverizing the meat in the process. Squirrels on the other hand seem to have no problems; they nibble tiny holes in the shell and either lick or suck the meat out.
