Hello,

The (used) house I've had these last 3 years has grooved wall board at one side of the basement (regular horizontal grooves, maybe 3" spaced, routed into a hardboard-like wall covering).

Does anyone know what type of hangers are compatible with this board, and where to get them? Also: do the hangers need individual peg-holes to be drilled into the existing grooves, or do some hangers utilize the grooves themselves?

This sounds like the stuff used by commercial retail stores. If so, the brackets use the grooves and require no additional modifications. This system can be quite strong. Ordinarily I recommend avoiding malls but in this case I would suggest you go to the nearest mall and check the displays. Talk to the store managers, if you are lucky they may have old brackets they will part with or at least can tell you where to get them.

After your clues I have found these accessories under trade-name Slatwall on the web. I can also go check the malls for free ones!

Rockler, Lowes and Sears sell the accessories, though you might have to match the slot size I am not 100% sure they are all compatible.

I just saw 4x8 panels of something like this at Home Depot in Virginia yesterday.
