It seems like anything the Japanese do they make it into an art - bonzai, flower arrangement (I forget their word for it), even drifting in auto racing. I think anyone except a woodworker might think of what we do as just a trade or craft in American culture. But it involves creativity and to me that makes it an art. When I say the Japanese make it into an art - I mean they don't perceive it the same way we might. ). I don't think I would have come up with any of those on my own without some instruction or seeing it done first. I think my favorite piece is the coffee table with the 3 sided pedestal made from plywood and cords to make it flex.
