Hello...
I need some help, I am trying to determine the proper lower saw guard for a Mark V 500, Serial #116080. a 1982....( I think.) SS lists assembly #513484,but on ebay listings I see Mark V 500 lower guards that look different from the SS descriptions, am I possibly just seeing a new style vs. an old style ?.
Yep I'm new to SS.... how could you tell....
Thanks
Tim

Hey Steve.
Thanks for the reply, I guess I'll go with the one that looks closest to the SS pictures...,some had springs and posts hooked to the upper gate that would slide up under the saw table.
Thanks Tim

The ebay one is probably the old style from the early 1980's period and earlier. Steel lower guard, upper made of aluminum.

Ebay has two.
But both would work OK. ?

As noted above, the original saw guards that came with a 500 were aluminum. They since have put out an upgraded guard set-up - the lower guard is plastic and has two dust collector connections, both of which are 2.25", as opposed to the single 1.5" connection on the original lower guard. The upgraded upper guard is larger and made of clear plastic and has some anti-kickback features that were not present on the original one. Here's a link:

Some level of minor modification is required to fit the upgraded set onto your 500, but I can't remember exactly what this entails…perhaps others here scan weigh in on this.

Thanks dgale...
Followed your link to SS, after reading your post, making sense now.
Love the SS... just doing the learning curve thing.
Thanks
